Minus 8其实就是DJ Robert Jan Meyer一手打造的名字，他是少数瑞士电子舞曲制作人之一。音乐风格融合了Drum'n'Bass breakbeat、down-tempo、Latin、Jazz、Deep House。Minus 8名字的由来是为了跟欧洲90年代初风行的高速“Plus Eight”电音所对应，走的是down-tempo路线。DJ Meyer首先以自己的名字跟随很多大牌在欧洲巡回演出，包括：GrooveRider、Goldie等等。随后DJ Cam旗下的一个Label发行了Meyer的首张Minus 8名义的唱片。之后其唱片摆脱了DJ Cam的影子，拾起了自己的风格，分别在德国label Compost发行了Beyond,Beyond和Elysian Fields，大受好评，巩固了其地位。
