由主唱Alexander Greenwald、贝司Sam Farrar、吉他Darren Robinson和鼓手Jeff Conrad组成的phantom planet。来自洛山矶的phantom planet最早在1994在他们青春期时期在当地一家必胜客里相识，最初有五位成员的他们在是post-grunge风格，他们的团名出自60年代的一部科幻电影，每个成员都有良好的教育背景。在90年代他们在L.A多了一些演出并因此小有名气，首张专辑Pantom Planet Is Missingz于1998年发行，很快来自四面八方的评论汹涌而来，但是他们的口碑也稳步上升。在2001年初，他们回到录音室和Tchad Blake(Pearl Jam Sheryl Crow)以及Mitchell Froom(Elvis Castello Paul McCartney)一起合作，一年之后The Guest问世了，首支单曲California出现在橘子郡男孩的原声大碟中同时也备受好评。然后这时对于fans来说不幸的是Jason Schuwartzman（他是Francis Ford Coppola Talia Shire的儿子）的侄子在2003年8月宣布退出乐队，他觉得是时候离开乐队去追寻其他的事的时候了。
