The Last Word: Bastille

Bastille speak with last.fm, reminiscing about their Session on the Lightship95, their strategy to releasing their singles very gradually, and how as a band having lower aspirations/expectations leads to many pleasant surprises in their career

Hailing from South London, Bastille have quickly become a household name. Formed by singer-songwriter Dan Smith, the roster rounds out with Chris 'Woody' Wood, Will Farquarson and Kyle Simmons. The band found success in rolling out their songs gradually and setting their expectations rather low... although at the moment they have exploded into a worldwide phenomenon amongst fans of indie, alternative and electronic music... especially those prone to melody and epic sweeping song stylings. Recently, Last.fm caught up with the band at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in downtown Manhattan (founded by Jimi Hendrix) (watch above).

In 2012, the boys visited the Lightship95 in London to hold an inaugural session with Last.fm:

Although since becoming their top scrobbled track, Bastille recall that the Lightship Session was one of the few times they did NOT perform the heralded "Pompeii" opting rather for "Flaws", "Bad Blood" & "Overjoyed"; which turn out beautifully in the intimate setting. All songs appear on their debut full-length Bad Blood as well as throughout a number of other EPs, remixes, & live cuts. Bad Blood can be purchased via iTunes.
