The German (post) black metal project werther effect. was formed by Merciless (all instruments, vocals, songwriting) in 2018. The original concept and some loose musical ideas existed previously for almost a whole decade. However this year marked the start of the songwriting process under the choosen band name. After failing to find fitting band members it was decided to continue as a solo project. The recordings for the debut "起死回生" (kishi kaisei) started in 2020 and the album was eventually self-released within the same year.
