The band's name is an obvious allusion to Sid Vicious' girlfriend Nancy Spungen. The early core of Nuncyspungen started in the summer of '96 with the band named "purple dreads" and composed of Chuck Bollozos (bass & vocals), Lourd Magto (guitars & vocals) and Janro Abian (drums). From the hardcore band Hemicrania, Ludwig Simbajon joined in as the other guitarist/vocalist in 1997 but later became a full-time guitarist when Philipp Coufal, from Ripcord, joined the band in the summer of 1999 as the new frontman.
