As a young girl growing up in Southside Jamaica Queens, Yolanda Renée was surrounded by a family of musicians which included her mother, father, brother, uncles and aunts. She recorded her first song "Joys of Life" with her father, Gary DeBerry Sr. formerly of Creative Funk, at the age of 5. She grew up singing in church and became a lead choir singer at the age of 11.
