Ty Ford learned to finger-pick acoustic guitar from Delta and Piedmont Blues player Neil Harpe, when both were in high school in Annapolis, Maryland in the mid 1960s. Ford was and remains infatuated with John Fahey and wowed by Leo Kottke. His style has slowly evolved over the years from folk and blues roots to both jazz and more open folk forms. He started with instrumentals, but has found his voice (although he's seldom happy with it.) He writes his own songs with lyrics.
