Travis began his career at a very young age, learning how to play guitar at the age of 9. He soon started playing at clubs, and it wasn't long before he received a recording contract. In 1994 he started a heavy metal band, Dead Reckoning with fellow Indianan teenagers Matt Taul and Jesse Vest, which played heavy, Pantera-like music.
