Colton first came to prominence a leader of The Crawdaddies, who were active on the thriving London R& circuit in 1963 and 1964. After forming a writing partnership with Ray Smith he supplied songs to the likes of The Merseybeats, The Riot Squad, Georgie Fame and Dantalion's Chariot, to name but a few.
