Tom Jessen grew up in Strawberry Point, Iowa. He began playing piano at age 8 and trombone at 11. In High School he taught himself guitar with a Beatles chord book and started writing his first songs. He attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City where he met many of his future band mates. While in college he divided his time between his art school studies and playing music with friends. It was only after school where he decided to concentrate on writing songs full time.
