“I Can’t Stand It” was originally recorded May 20, 1969, during the sessions for the Velvet Underground’s lost fourth album. It was discarded after the band was dropped from MGM Records and the planned album was thrown out. Lou Reed later re-recorded this song for inclusion on his first solo album, Lou Reed.

The Velvet Underground was an American experimental rock band formed in New York City in 1964. It originally comprised singer and guitarist Lou Reed, Welsh multi-instrumentalist John Cale, guitarist Sterling Morrison, and drummer Angus MacLise.
