Formed in late 2009, The Velvet Regime played their original songs regularly at school assemblies and soirees, but it wasn't until joining the Smokefree Rockquest in 2010 that they took their music a step further. They won 2nd Place at the Wellington Regionals and placed in the Top 20 nationwide. Soon after the SFRQ, the original drummer left the band, due to personal reasons.
