The Trashbirds were a garage rock and pop band formed in Oberlin, Ohio, United States, in 2004. The original lineup consisted of Matthew Santoro (vocals), Will Butler (rhythm guitar), Wes Cowie (drums), Kerry Kallberg (lead guitar), and Jay Barone (bass). The band was founded in December of 2004 as a Winter Term project at Oberlin College by lead vocalist Matthew Santoro. He chose members from among his friends, all of whom knew each other from sitting under the Wisdom Tree on Oberlin's North Quad.
