The Silvermine Tapes are a foundation of bass, drums and guitar garnished with exotica and a collection of non-rock instrumentation, always proceeding from the premise that improvisation and experimentation are crucial if music is to breathe. They formed as a recording outfit in Adelaide, Australia in 1996. Early experiments were recorded on eight-track tape at an actual disused Silvermine, now home to an artists’ studio, exhibition space and recording studio.
