The Kite Tails formed in Lawrence, Kansas in Spring of 2008 when Ian and Danny decided to play together on a whim. Ian was going to try playing bass with Jen and Danny's band Transmittens, but the project evolved into something different. Every Saturday, they would record in a loft above the Phoenix Gallery on Mass Street until Jen moved back to Cincinnati for Summer school. When she returned, they resumed recording and started playing shows. Peter joined on drums for the live shows and quickly became a full-fledged member of the band.
