Biography

Speedwell began in the fall of 1996 as Meredith Bragg, Troy Farmer, and Jonathan Roth. They played some shows in Harrisonburg, VA and recorded a seven inch record that was released by Sport. Soon after this, Brian Minter joined the band. They then toured the southeastern U.S. with Engine Down. They wrote some great songs before they broke up in May of 1998.

The story doesn't end there, though. In 2000, with all members of the band relocated to Washington, DC, and realizing they still enjoyed playing music together, they decided to reform and set upon the task of once again rocking the world, or at least the eastern U.S. They recorded a CD EP that was released by Engineer records, and added another member to the band, Cheryl Huber. This line-up toured the southeastern U.S. with fellow D.C. rockers Metropolitan. Once again, they wrote some more great songs, and then Speedwell split up again in February of 2003.

Throughout their sporadic career, they played shows with such notable bands as the Dismemberment Plan, Jimmy Eat World, the Get Up Kids, Mates of State, Superdrag, Ted Leo, Mineral, the Van Pelt, Silver Scooter, Milemarker, and 400 Years. They also appeared on various compilations released by Deep Elm, Ignition, and Coolidge/Underadar Records. In 2013, Coolidge Records released "Start to Finish", the complete discography of Speedwell, which is available at http://speedwell.bandcamp.com.
