Before starting their most known project Phoenecia, Joshua Kay and Romulo del Castillo released Tone Capsule, a compilation of three previously released EPs with the same name, under the alias of Soul Oddity. Soul Oddity's sound is less experimental and complex than their future works, combining detroit techno with miami bass funk. Besides forming Phoenecia, Joshua Kay and Romulo del Castillo also started Schematic Records, and released some works separatedly, under the aliases of Jeswa (Joshua Kay), Patcha Kutek and Takeshi Muto (Romulo del Castillo).
