Smash The Hourglass first came together when drummer Danny Bekker and guitarist Sebastiaan Valks met each other at the music school Herman Brood Academie. They found out during the introduction that they liked the same music and soon they started forming a band. The first attempt with rhythm guitarist Guido failed and they pulled the plug on this band. Sebastiaan and Danny started over adding vocalist Roderick (Red) to the band, who had been a friend of Sebastiaan's for years.
