The song might be about two former lovers quarreling over the past, with one telling the other that they (or he) to put all their troubles behind them, through songwriting. The irony is that Neil and Rachel used to date in the early days of Slowdive, but broke up between "Just for a Day" and "Souvlaki", the latter of which had songs inspired by their break up.
