David and Tim were born in California, and were raised in the Pacific Northwest. Upon returning to Northern California, David began writing songs on piano as well as keyboards and the Atari ST, and some guitar. Tim picked up the drums years later, adding an organic quality to the music. They met their friend and future bandmate, Jim, through their high school teacher.
