S.P.U.D. was a noise rock band from New Zealand. The group released one LP (Gnaw, 1991), one mini LP (Sour, 1990) and a couple of 7'' singles (Breakdown Town, 1989 and Recliner, 1992). S.P.U.D sometimes stood for Society for the Protection of the Unborn Dog…depending on who was asking. S.P.U.D supported various international acts including Sonic Youth , Dinosaur Junior and Mudhoney.
