Peter van Onna was born on January 22, 1966 in Hengelo (Gelderland). He studied at the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague, composition with Theo Loevendie and Louis Andriessen and orchestration with Klaas de Vries. Then he studied orchestral conducting. He was Composer in Residence with the Gelders Orkest during 2000/2001 and with the Brabants Orkest in 2006/2007. From 1993 to 2005 Peter van Onna wrote a cycle of orchestral compositions in which each piece is designed to 'form a dialogue' with paintings.
