Nina Hagerup Grieg (24/11/1845 - 09/12/1935), a Danish-Norwegian Unitarian, was a concert singer and the inspiration for her husband Edvard Grieg's substantial body of songs. She earned a reputation as an unrivaled interpreter of his vocal works. Her unique style penetrated the poetry and heightened the drama of the words. Composer Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky later wrote of her, "I have never met a better-informed or more highly cultivated woman."
