The Foundations for Many Machines on Nine (MM9) were laid in 2001, stemming from drummer Ben Ellingworth: his desire to share his musical vision with other like-minded players. Frustrated by years of unfulfilling session work, and earlier abortive attempts at joining other bands, he became convinced that the only way to achieve this vision was to kick things off himself.
