Maninho nasceu em Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, no ano de 1979. Começou cedo na música. Com 8 anos iniciou os estudos de teoria musical, sendo a flauta seu primeiro instrumento. Logo despertou interesse pelo violão, piano e instrumentos de sopro diversos. A música católica entrou em sua vida quando, incentivado pelo seu irmão Umberto, que na época já era baterista da Banda Paz e Mel, foi convidado a participar como instrumentista e vocalista nos eventos da Igreja.
