Alderson is recognized by most for her role as Starr Manning on the ABC soap opera, One Life to Live, a role she has played since 1998. Her younger brother Eddie Alderson also stars on the hit ABC soap as Matthew Buchanan. Before One Life to Live, Alderson played Molly in a Broadway production of Annie. Alderson received the Soap Opera Digest Award 2005 Favorite Teen for her work in One Life to Live.
