Jagdish Mistry was born in Mumbai, India in 1963. He received his first violin lessons at age eight. In 1975, he moved to England to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School. During his time there, Mistry was frequently invited to perform Bach's Double Concerto and other chamber music pieces with Menuhin in Europe, India and China. One of his instructors was David Takeno under whom Mistry continued to study at the Guildhall School in London.
