Il-Ryun Chung was born in Frankfurt/M. in 1964. From 1967 to 1971 he lived inSeoul/Korea. Chung's musical development began rather late, at the age of 16, when he taught himself to play the guitar. In 1984 he went to Berlin, where he found his first teacher and supporter, Carlo Domeniconi. From 1989-1995 he completed his studies in composition at the Berlin University of Arts (HdK Berlin) with Prof. Jolyon Brettingham-Smith.
