Biography

Ghost & the Big Sky is a band borne out of a near miss. A death that almost happened; by sheer luck, a force of will or medical technology, guitarist/songwriter Patrick Bitbol lives to tell the tale. "I almost pulled a Duane…", is his quote, referring to the Allman Brother who was killed at a young 24 years of age on his Harley. "I got hit head on by a van…I have no memory of the actual hit, but the police report sez my body was thrown about seventy feet from the point of impact…" Patrick has a large titanium plate "installed" on the left side of his skull. He also recuperated from many broken ribs, a broken forearm and a cracked pelvis…his brain took weeks to start functioning properly again.

The sounds you hear on this CD began while Patrick spent two months in the brain trauma ward of a Jersey hospital. Strumming his acoustic helped his recovery, considering that for a couple weeks he couldn't remember what town he was in, where he lived, what his cats' names were etc. Yet the music remained, and acted as a healer. Not only for himself - other patients recovering after a stroke or another serious head injuries were entertained by Patricks' playing. The doctors encouraged him to continue, and his neurosurgeon told him that he was in the top 5% of cases who recovered so well. He began writing some riffs, which turned into songs, which turned into Ghost & the Big Sky.
The CD is written and produced by Patrick Bitbol and Paul Gerdts.

It is an honest statement about carrying the torch of rock music for 2010 and "continuing to make people dance, smile and groove with our sound as long as the sun keeps shining…"
