Obeah is a term of Igbo (West African) origin, widely spread throughout the Dutch and English speaking Caribbean. It refers to magico-religious Afro-Caribbean practices. This was his first single and the first song on his debut album. This is where Tony McKay presents his alter ego, Exuma, starting with a mythic narrative about his birth and about this spirit that existed even before he was born. He talks about the power of his obeah, not only as an obeah man, but as the obeah man, the ultimate magician.

Exuma was Bahamian musician, artist, playwright and author Macfarlane Gregory Anthony Mackey (born 18 February 1942 on Cat Island, Bahamas; died 25 January 1997; Nassau, Bahamas). Known for his almost unclassifiable music, he recorded many albums, starting with Exuma, The Obeah Man in 1970 and ending with Rude Boy in 1986.
