Marshall Bruce Mathers III (known by his primary stage name “Eminem”, or by his alter ego “Slim Shady”), is an 11 time grammy winning, multi-platinum rapper, record producer, actor, and The Artist of the Decade (2000-2010).

Eminem quickly gained popularity in the underground scene in 1995 with his album Infinite (Officially released in 1996). It only sold a couple hundred copies and was not liked by many people.

In 1997 He released his first album under his alter ego "Slim Shady" as you would guess it was called "The Slim Shady EP". This was the album that got Dr. Dre's attention. One year later Eminem was signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records.

In 1999, his major-label debut album The Slim Shady LP won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. The LP Included hit singles such as: "My Name Is" "Guilty Consience featuring Dr. Dre" and "Just Don't Give A Fuck"

The following album, The Marshall Mathers LP, became the fastest-selling hip hop album in history and also the most controvertial album of all time dealing with gays, parents, teachers, and many others. It brought Eminem increasing popularity, including his own record label, Shady Records, that brought his group D12 to mainstream recognition. D12 was formed before Eminem achieved solo success but many critics think that Eminem was the lead singer of the band D12 inspiring the song My Band.

The Marshall Mathers LP and his third album, The Eminem Show also won Grammy Awards, making Eminem the first artist to win Best Rap Album for three consecutive LP’s.

In 2002, he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Lose Yourself from the film 8 Mile, in which he also played the lead. Making the it the first rap song to ever win an Academy Award. Lose Yourself would go on to become the longest running #1 rap single.

In 2004, he released an album that was known to be his worst album ever, Encore. He mixed up even more controvertial mixes with people such as Nelly, Triumph The Insult Comic Dog, Christopher Reeves (as for the last 3 albums also) and Michael Jackson.

The next year he released a greatest hits album entitled "Curtain Call". It may have been a greatest hits album, but it still had some new songs for the fans. Songs such as "Fack" "Shake That featuring Nate Dogg" and the hit single "When I'm Gone".

Eminem then went on hiatus after touring in 2005 to check into rehab. Although he was on hiatus, he still released some material for fans in 2006. "The Re-Up" was supposed to be a mixtape, that's why no one considers it an album. The "mixtape" was made to promote his 2 latest Shady Records artists: Bobby Creekwater and CA$HIS. The only reason he released it was because his best friend/best man/right hand/fellow D12 member, Proof was brutally murdered earlier in the year and it had a very special tribute to him.

Even though he didn't release any albums in 2007 and 2008, he still released some material. in 2007 he worked with T.I. on his T.I. vs. T.I.P. album and CA$HIS for his debut EP. In 2008 He Worked with Trick Trick and Kid Rock for Trick's "Villain" LP.

In 2009, he returned with his hit album "Relapse" on May 19. It earned him another Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, giving him a total of 11 Grammys in his career to date.

On December 21st, he Re-released "Relapse" with an extra disc including 7 new songs as an extra taste before Relapse 2 came out. The Album Was Called "Refill". Also in December, 2009 Eminem was named the Artist of the Decade by Neilson SoundScan & Billboard Magazine, which recognized him for having sales exceeding 32 million units domestically. Worldwide the Artist has sold more than 80 million albums to date, and is one of the best-selling music artists in the world.

On Twitter he tweeted that there will be no Relapse 2. 2 hours later, he tweeted again announcing that he will be restarting the proccess of making the new album and he gave it a new name. It was named "Recovery". This album was released on the 22nd of June in 2010. The LP had some very unusual collaborations with people like P!NK, Rihanna, and Kobe. On this LP He critisized his last 2 albums and had a tribute to Proof that gave the people 4 times as much flavor as the "Re-Up" tribute did.

Born in Saint Joseph, Missouri, United States on October 17, 1972, Mathers currently resides in Detroit, Michigan, United States.

He has been influenced by many artists and many artists have been influenced to start their carrer. such as an underground rapper by the name of EKwesco. He is the biggest influence of EK's career. Eminem has been influenced by rappers such as the Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre, Tupac, and LL Cool J.
