Emily Melander and Bryan LeSuer started recording songs together in 2006. The songs were based off of poems that Emily wrote. She recorded them onto a tape player then showed them to Bryan, who improvised accompanying parts on mandolin and guitar and engineered new recordings in his house with good equipment.
