Philadelphia’s instrumental pleasure-givers Do You Need the Service? specialize in finding a groove and taking it to its illogical conclusion. Built around the rhythm section of longtime friends and bandmates Justin Hallman (bass) and Mark Sconyers (drums), the lineup has congealed over two years of live performances to include Michael Tramonata on baritone sax and Timothy Day on synths. It might sound like jazz at first, with a playfulness that feels improvised, but each song is so tightly structured that their LP was recorded live at the Gradwell House studio in just ten hours.
