Conor Mulroy has recorded through-composed music for bluegrass, jazz and metal groups. Rob Cimitile has written music for film, theater and the concert hall. Each has played in numerous bands covering various genres. During a sea kayaking trip over the summer along the Maine coast the two discovered they had each been writing lyrically based tunes for acoustic instruments. After three days of paddling, dealing with rip tides, being chased by mosquitoes, and coming to the conclusion that the name Broken River was too cliché for a band, the two decided to co-found the group Broken Fingers.
