In 1969 a young musician named Brian Kinchy (later Sands) founded the very first US David Bowie fan club (The International David Bowie Society) from his home town of Cleveland, Ohio. Brian's enthusiasm for Bowie's music resulted in a personal phone call from Bowie in 1972 and was also largely instrumental in Cleveland being chosen as the starting point for the 1st US Ziggy Stardust Tour that September.
