"Three Is a Magic Number" is one of the original 46 songs from the Schoolhouse Rock! series. It is featured on the 30th Anniversary DVD and the Multiplication Rock video compilations. The inaugural song created for the series , the track was composed and performed in 1973 by Bob Dorough, musical director of the series. In 1996, alternative group Blind Melon released a cover version of the song on the Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks album On September 27, 2005, Blind Melon would release their compilation album The Best of Blind Melon, which would feature Three is a Magic Number as the 17th track.

Blind Melon are a grunge band from Los Angeles, United States. They were active from 1989 to 1999, and then from 2006 onward. Best remembered for their 1993 single "No Rain", the group enjoyed critical and commercial success in the early 1990s with their neo-psychedelic take on alternative rock.
