Billy Fane was born in Bogalusa, LA, in 1925. He started playing trumpet and piano at a young age, but WWII interrupted his studies. He served in the Navy in the Pacific theatre, participating in the invasion of Iwo Jima. He continued his studies on the G.I. bill after the war, married, had 2 children, taught band for a number of years in Mississippi, and ultimately started the Billy Fane Trio which played gigs for over 35 years until his death from cancer in 1992. His wife continued the band until her death in 2009. The Billy Fane Trio recorded three albums in total.
