In 1993 Big Chief released Mack Avenue Skullgame, an "original soundtrack" for a non-existent blaxploitation film set in Detroit's Cass Corridor. The album was the band's first release after signing with Sub Pop. Thornetta Davis joins the group as a featured vocalist (singing the part of Sonica the hooker). Fully conceived with a plot, themes, and incidental music, Mack Avenue was dedicated to legendary Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel, who died the year before.
