Bata Illic (born 30 September 1939 in Belgrade) is a Serbian schlager singer. Illic studied English and Italian and later worked as a teacher. In 1963, he and his band secured a multi-month engagement at an American club in Bad Kissingen. This was followed by further performances at clubs in Bad Hersfeld, Fulda, and Berlin. In 1967, Illic recorded his first album. His first chart successes came in 1968 with the songs Mit verbundenen Augen and Schuhe, so schwer wie ein Stein. His greatest hit came in 1972 with Michaela.
