Alex Lawrence was born in Hollywood California Presbyterian church in 1966. He was adopted when he was six months old by Edwin and Carolee Lawrence and lived with them in Tarzana California. At age 3 he learned how to piano.He went to school and moved to Woodland Hills at age 5. Due to his disabilities when he was born, Alex had a problem expressing himself, and people at school teased him. But at age ten he learned how to play drums and guitar.
