Al-Balabil (Arabic: البلابل), or “The Nightingales,” are three sisters from Nubia who became one of Sudan’s most popular singing groups. Starting out singing in a folklore group, they learned musical traditions of both Nubia and other cultural areas of Sudan. When they formed البلابل in 1971, they were considered Sudan’s answer to the Supremes.
