The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra (東京シティ・フィルハーモニック管弦楽団) is known have the longest history in orchestra in Japan, originally established in 1911 in Nagoya. After moving to Tokyo in 1938, the orchestra played under Chief conductor Manfred Gurlitt brining opera to the Japanese public. The orchestra, now consisting of 166 members, regularly plays at the Suntory and Orchard Halls, and the Tokyo Opera City.
