Owing to having grown up in New York City, Sakamoto developed a worldly aptitude from a young age, and is fluent in English. She is the daughter of two hugely successful Japanese musicians, Akiko Yano (矢野顕子) and Ryûichi Sakamoto (坂本龍一).
