Air Traffic http://cdn.last.fm/depth/flags/mini/uk.gif day 1 / 14 august 2008

Air Traffic are a hard band to describe without name checking every other successful indie band in recent years. Sounds like Coldplay? Check. Sounds like Snow Patrol? Check. The list could go on endlessly.
A four piece from Bournemouth, they have a knack of writing songs that remind you just a little bit of something you have heard before. Enough to make you feel comfortable and familiar with each one, but not too much so that you feel as if you have heard it a million times before. It is a formula that should help them shift bucketloads of this debut album.
They've mastered the skill of writing great choruses. Listening to "Charlotte" you can already see the crowd going mad and some major mosh pit thrashing. The same goes for "Never Even Told Me Her Name", which is sure to be a favourite with its fast, insistent, catchy chorus.

Kultur Shock http://cdn.last.fm/depth/flags/mini/us.gif day 2 / 15 august 2008
http://www.stufstock.com/shared_img/kultur200x200.jpg
The audience in Vama Veche will face on Friday, 15th of August, a cultural shock - punk, rock, gipsy music, balkans themes, from United States and Japan.
The band's six members are covering three continents, but all of them define themselves as being at a crossroad of two worlds - their origin and the world they are living in nowadays, USA, as punk stars.
From the beginings of Kultur Shock, in 1996, they have been working hard to achive this "musical monster" from the stage, this exotic mix of styles and cultures.

Apocalyptica http://cdn.last.fm/depth/flags/mini/fi.gif day 1 / 14 august 2008
http://www.stufstock.com/shared_img/apo200x200.jpg
In an industry well-versed in putting bands into boxes, then nailing down the lid, Apocalyptica have always kept their wings well spread; not just as an international market-leader (though that cap most certainly fits), but as a group who have effecttively created a market of their own - a tight-knit troupe who continue to prove that rock music isn't to do with the instrument you play, but the attitude you keep. Or maybe the one you're born with...
Since 1996 and the release of their debut album ('Plays Metallica By Four Cellos'), Apocalyptica - graduates of the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Finland - have been developing a style that is tough to put a name to... 'Heavy Cello Mayhem'? 'Rock'n' Resin'?!... The possibilities are vast, but whatever the latest tag, the fact remains that never before had a group of classically-trained cellists, metal fans to a man, attempted to fuse together the seemingly disparate worlds of classical music & hard rock...of Prokofiev & Pantera... Shostakovich & Slayer... to seek out the middle ground between the mosh pit & the orchestra pit, the dinner jacket & the denim jacket, whilst being 100 percent respectful to both camps...
Still mainly instrumental, but with enough vocal presence to turn up the drama when required, 'Apocalyptica' is a major achievement for all concerned; not just a melding of different genres, but the creation of a heavy hybrid style.

dEUS http://cdn.last.fm/depth/flags/mini/be.gif day 2 / 15 august 2008
http://www.stufstock.com/shared_img/deus200x200.jpg
dEUS return with "Vantage Point", their boldest album to date, featuring guest vocal appearances from Karin Dreijer Andersson from The Knife and Guy Garvey of Elbow.
"Vantage Point" finds dEUS at their most adventurous and self-assured. The brooding grandeur of opener 'When She Comes Down' precedes a confident left-turn, the anxious squall of 'Oh Your God', Tom spitting wisdoms over tremolo guitar drone. "Eternal Woman" follows, highlighting the more emotive side of dEUS, before the propulsive rhythms and menacing guitars of "Favourite Game". Icy synths combine with dark, smouldering bass on the noirish "Slow", featuring a stellar guest vocal appearance from Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife, while The Architect finds dEUS in early 80s NY punk-funk territory.
The album draws to a close on an emotional note, the beautiful piano refrain on "Smokers Reflect" framing it's lyric of love's regret. This is followed by the epic sweep of 'The Vanishing Of Maria Schneider', a lilting meditation upon the transitory nature of beauty which features the aching harmonies of Elbow's Guy Garvey on guest vocals. 'Popular Culture' closes the album out with raggedy choirs singing philosophical choruses over strings and a veritable Phil Spector Wall Of Sound. A suitably grand exeunt for an album that plays large. A record that will provide a soundtrack to both nocturnal adventures as much as the wide open skies of festival season.
