Are you doing any exciting books atm? I'm reading Money by Martin Amis right now, it's pretty good like (how's that for highbrow literary criticism!) My favourite thing in the world at the moment is my bouzouki, it's got a really cool sound

Lol yeah I know, I've been in a few bands but it's mainly a hobby for me now, although it's still my main passion. I'm in a folk band at the minute and also working on a solo EP that's acoustic based. I also write really silly songs for a podcast. I'm going to check that iplayer episode out this evening, I need to go to bed really early because I've been burning the candle at both ends and in the middle of late. Lie ins are one thing I seriously miss about uni life... I had no idea I would do a research masters when I was in first year uni, so you never know what you'll do. A guy in my band did an English degree though and got a first, and still hasn't has a paid job - so I'd say a masters is recommended! What instruments do you play / can I hear any songs?

I didn't even know he was on, do you think it'd still be on I-player? Although it's a shame if he didn't play anything off ecstatic, I love that album, I might actually buy it on vinyl soon. Yeah the masters was all theory based but you applied it to your topic of choice - I did a placement on a psychology study, it was good but I was really skint that entire year.

I wrote this on the wrong wall like an idiot: Haha... I've no idea, I am doing research on male victims of domestic abuse at the moment, apparently it's going to be amazing for my cv (if it works out well) so I will be looking for an interesting job in research psychology somewhere in the UK. I was in Barcelona in February which really made me want to live there, but my lack of Spanish would be a problem. I'm an obsessive reader but I did Psychology for the whole pragmatic career thing, and then took a year out for jazz theory in Ulster college of music before doing a research masters. Music scene in Belfast keeps getting better, but you're right, it's too small which can be a nightmare.

I'm still in Belfast unfortunately, although my jobs ends in September so who knows where I'll go. What are you studying? I just looked back at my comments and you were the second ever person to comment on my last.fm page! I think I must have creeped on your profile from the Tom Waits page or similar

yeah, he's not exactly everyday music, but is good for long journeys, takes you on a total trip... if you ever get the chance to see him live do it. After what he said in Galway i ran home and started a band and ripped off his dancing ;)

I'm no expert on Mahavishnu Orchestra but I like what I've heard. It's hard to listen to stuff like that in work though, which is where I usually use last fm. I have to keep it reasonably sane unfortunately (so no secret chiefs or most tom waits either, unless no one else is in!) My name is from an episode of Mr Show , an odd but great American comedy show from the mid 1990's! And yours?

I have been to see Tommy Emmanuel live a pile of times, including down at Vicar Street, but never been to see tom Waits :( Although I was at the black box in Belfast a couple of weeks ago too see Barney Hoskyns read from the new biography he's written about Tom Waits, an d tell stories about at the times he has met him, then a Tom Waits tribute act came on who were actually pretty good. Not quite the real thing though! What about you?
