'Filosofem' is my favorite Burzum album and one of my all time favorite BM albums. I also fucking love 'Hvis Lyset Tar Oss', but not as much as 'Filosofem'. I don't actually like his earlier BM stuff and haven't listened to his recent, though. His second dark ambient album is pretty good if you like dark ambient. I own it on vinyl and it's really beautiful.

"Imaginary Sonicscape". One of my fav BM albums. Other stops would be "Hail Horror Hail" for more avant-garde stuff, or "Scorn Defeat" if you feel the need to check out their old school style.

Which CF album(s) did you end up checking out? Amesoeurs are great. I love their EP in particular. I got it right around when it came out and listened to it on repeat like crazy. Check out Of the Wand and the Moon or Nature and Organisation next. If you have no compuctions against downloading, I could easily find you links/upload them for you/give you some link hunting tips.

I may have to rescind that Carpathian Forest recommendation. It's still a decent album and it's hi-fi which is why I suggested it. However, I recently gave "In These Trees Are My Gallows", "Through Chasm, Caves and Titan Woods" and "Black Shining Leather" dedicated spins and they're definitely CF's best. Anyway, if I had to suggest a few awesome Neofolk albums to start with, I'd suggest: Blood Axis' "BLÓT: Sacrifice in Sweden"; Current 93's "Thunder Perfect Mind"; Death in June's "Rose Clouds of Holocaust"; In Gowan Ring's "Hazel Steps Through a Weathered Home"; Nature and Organisation's "Beauty Reaps The Blood Of Solitude"; :Of the Wand and the Moon:'s "Lucifer"; Rome's "Flowers From Exile"; and Spiritual Front's "Armageddon Gigolò". The Nature and Organisation and Spiritual Front are hands down two of my favorite albums, and Rome and :Of the Wand and the Moon: are two of my favorite musical groups ever. In Gowan Ring is similar to the Agalloch. Blood Axis/Death in June are classics.

You may want to check out some Melodic and Symphonic Black Metal. They aren't my fortes but they are probably the most accessable incarnations of the genre. They tend to have more hi-fi production and fit on the usual chassis of Black Metal, as opposed to the weirdness stuff like Post-Black or Industrial Black Metal has. You may also like some Folk/Black Metal or Viking/Black Metal as an Agalloch fan. It is more likely than, say, Symphonic stuff to be raw, but can be cleanly produced. Also, as far as Agalloch, are you fond of "The White"? Because you might like Neofolk, which is probably the only non-Metal genre I consider myself very knowledgeable about.

That Asobi Seksu album is awesome btw.

Also: Amesoeurs (all), Carpathian Forest (Defending the Throne of Evil), Code (both albums; I wrote about them in my blog), Cor Scorpii (Monument), Deathspell Omega (Paracletus), Enochian Crescent (Black Church), Lunar Aurora (Andacht), Melechesh (Emissaries), Mirrorthrone (Carriers of Dust), Mystic Forest (Romances), and Primordial (Spirit the Earth Aflame, To the Nameless Dead) are good starts.

I dunno. I think part of it is Black Metal is very emotional music for me. I feel a spiritual (in the metaphorical sense) connection to it in a way. So if I'm feeling emotionally clusterfucked listening to it can be unenjoyable. I've just recently gotten my life back together after a super bad depression, so maybe my heart was just ready for it again. :P Thank you for the compliment btw. I just have Catholic tastes, so the music I like jumps all over. As far as genres go though I only know a ton specifically about Black Metal, Death Metal and Neofolk, so I'm kinda a Jill-of-all-trades.

There's plenty of cleanly produced Black Metal, but I like lo-fi stuff. Including lo-fi Death Metal and Punk, or Noise music. I dunno. I like my extreme stuff extreme. Haha.

Nothing much. Just listening to Black Metal, reading about other Black Metal bands, downloading their albums, listening to more Black Metal and then listening to Crust Punk.
