actually just talked to someone, I am kinda ashamed of it lol. In reality it should be more like 2k, but for the last 5 years I was quite depressed and often let Spotify radio run. It wasn't proper listening. Ah well. I deleted Spotify from all my devices last year, because it wasn't good for my mental health. Only BC, physicals, recs from friends and my good ol library now. :)

Yeah, good assessment. I'm really glad their albums are so versatile rather than sounding all the same. There's something for every season and feeling. And Shelter remains my favourite summer record of all time! I'm also a huge Alcest fan. Their music has always accompanied me wherever I went in life. Can't wait to see them play this August again after almost 6 years since the last time I saw them play..

I find The Microphones earlier work has some solid warm fuzz. Also Boris' "the thing which solomon overlooked" album series (I-III) and there Soundtrack for Film Mabuta no Ura concept album. Natural Snow Buildings and Tim Hecker also have some pretty comfy drones (try Timmy's latest two). I'd also say Midori Takada (Through the Looking Glass) will probably engulf you in the right way. Lastly, listen to Chihei Hatakeyama if you want drones so comfy, you fall into the deepest slumber. If you know all these already, lmk (sorry was too lazy to check your charts).

Das war wirklich einer der besten Gigs! Ich hab damals einen Tag Uni in Berlin geschwänzt um nach Dresden zu fahren (No regrets). Und mein Bruder (bei dem ich gepennt hab) und ich haben nach dem Konzert noch mit dem Drummer gequatscht und ich hatte mich bedankt, dass sie Flood gespielt haben, und er meinte nur so "it was too short". :D Würde gerne Mal wieder was im Beatpol sehen, ist ein cooler Schuppen (oder überhaupt irgend ein verdammtes Konzert!).

It's hard to say. Right now it's .neon, because 'tis the season. And it's just bleak in a cathartic way and reflects a lot of my emotions this year. However, overall probably Melting Sun, which is a completely different style, and really uplifting record. I connect a lot of special moments from Summer 2014 with it, so it's a personal choice I guess. Both absolutely worth a listen though.

Sorry for replying late to your first message, Oct was pretty busy, and I just handed in my thesis yesterday... The Midor Takada comparison is really on spot! I love her work. Sadly I missed her playing in Glasgow a few years ago. I hope to have the chance in the future again. Hamase is pretty nice too, somehow he makes me feel like I am entering surrealist paintings and proceed to walk through impossible landscapes.

Oh geez, thesis, fun. Yeah, there's something really evocative about it. For me it fondly reminds me of a lot of 90s video games (for the sampler instruments), but still so atmospheric. His bass playing reminds me a lot of Eberhard Weber, that certain wandering/explorational style (though without the electronic sampler instrument touch)

I just randomly remembered that you first got me to listen to Ichiko Aoba. I saw her live this summer in a super tiny venue in Scotland and it was one of the most magical gigs I ever attended. I even chatted to her a bit after and she drew a little thing into her book that I bought. :)

Right now it's Non Blood Lore - I really love those chants and the solo. Vocals haven't been this good in a long time in general! The whole album is crazy good though. I can see why a lot of people are making PINK comparisons. It sounds like absolute peak Boris.

And also Rainbow (Boris with Michio Kurihara). Lastly, now is really the time to listen to "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven" in its entirety, on headphones, and with your eyes closed. No fast-forwarding allowed.

Sorry for replying late with this! I have to say I agree on the production. It's very over-the-top. Similar to what would happen if you oversaturate a sunset photograph... I like the songwriting better than on Purple though (over the years Y&G has grown to be my favourite and somehow I get more of the same vibes in some of the G&G tracks). I completely agree with you that I need more time to see whether the songs stick with me though. As much as I like sludge and rawer sounds, in the end what really stuck with me the most was always Baroness' catchier stuff like "Eula". Wish I could see them live again, I feel G&G has the potential to be fantastic in concert, especially, because those production issues basically disappear. The last time I saw them was with a completely different line-up approximately a month before that bus incident, so it's really overdue...

Depends a bit on your taste, I feel more recent Envy is more Post-Rocky, so if you like that (nice effects on guitars, build-ups etc.), I'd listen to their more recent stuff like "Recitation" or "Atheist's Cornea. However, if you want heavy, relentless riffs and more traditional Screamo (as in rooted in hardcore), I'd check out "A Dead Sinking Story" and "All the Footprints...". "Chain Wandering Deeply" from the former is still my favourite track! If you like the heavy parts, I also highly recommend checking out Heaven in Her Arms, a band from the same scene.

And you got Feedbacker in your past 7 days listen. I approve. Did you hear that they just announced a reissue for this year? (on top of new album announced just a few hours ago)

Uhh.. I find it hard to recommend stuff to people who already listen to this much..., but I'll give it a try: In terms of heavier post-metal stuff, check out Amenra and Old Man Gloom. For mathy/crazy stuff, you should listen to SikTh more, and my secret tip would be a German progressive/mathcore band called 'The Hirsch Effekt' (German vocals, but extraordinary songwriting). Also check out World's End Girlfriend, Jambinai and Boris (for Boris start with 'Pink', 'Rainbow' and 'Flood'). Let me know if you liked any of these.

Thanks! Some of them I've flirted with every now and then but I feel it was probably during the wrong time (if that makes any sense? You know when you're more into a certain type of music it's hard to get into other types and by the time you move on to that genre you have forgotten that those bands existed), so SikTh has been in my mind and even Jambinai and Boris, so I'll put them on my list. The others are new to me so I'm excited to listen to them, and even though I don't speak German I kinda appreciate listening to music in other languages than those I can speak. You're from Germany right??

Yep, I can relate. There's also something about trying out things again that you didn't like or 'get' in the past at a later time when your taste has evolved . I feel similar about other languages: Oftentimes vocals in specific languages work especially well for a certain genre or song style and sometimes it can help to perceive them more like an additional instrument rather than mere vehicles of lyrical meaning. However, regarding THE, I personally actual enjoy the lyrics as well, but that's probably because there is hardly any music written in German out there that I enjoy. :( I am German, but have been living abroad for half a decade now (currently in Scotland), so I appreciate any German input I can expose myself to.
