Yeah I'm the same with DT, I listened to them a ton when I was first getting into music properly, but only for a few months, and I'm forever slightly ashamed of how high they are in my charts XD I'm gonna give BtBaM a few more gos, but they might just be too heavy for me.

pinkerton is a masterpiece in general

to be honest, it has a lot more plays. i deleted my old copy because they weren't audiophile-approved mp3s. my top plays has been fucked up ever since i started caring about bitrate. i think songs from In The Aeroplane made up about 70% of my top 10 most played. please don't hate me.

Finally there is paysage d'hiver. This is by far the project i had most trouble getting into, the production is fierce and sounds horrendous at first. Id definitely leave this band until u get used to some of the other bands production because this takes it to another level. But once u can overcome the 'bad' production, it is one of the best projects in the genre. The atmosphere is incredible. But definitely leave this project till u get into black metal properly, dw i wont let u forget it :P

ok awesome. One thing you'll learn from this type of music is you need to get used to the production that some projects use to create ambience and atmosphere the music needs. First of all i cant see u getting into Burzum, but because he pretty is essential to ambient black metal, ill rec that first but the first band u need to get into are wolves in the throne room. They are a great gateway band to atmospheric/ambient black metal. Now im just gonna make a list of bands u should check out, some you might need time to get used to the production: Panopticon, Woods of Desolation, An autumn for crippled children, Winterfylleth, Walknut, Vinterriket (most of his stuff is dark ambient but has a bit of BM in it), early Satyricon, Peste Noire (band i forgot that have folk, this is Neige from alcest's other band), Kataxu (symphonic/atmospheric), Fell Voices, Darkthrone (raw black metal but it is atmospheric too), Coldworld, Blut Aus Nord, Arizmenda (quite difficult production tho), Ash Borer.

Finally, Panopticon is possibly my favourite black metal project that incorporates folk but im not sure if u will be able to get into it as easy because of the production. If you like ulver and drudkh, check out Panopticon's 'collapse' but i wouldnt be surprised if u find the production a bit of a struggle. Then if u enjoy collapse, you must get the self-titled even tho there isnt really any folk. It is amazing. Anyway, im more of an atmospheric/ambient/depressive black metal guy. If you want more recs id talk to crysis, hawks or spirit, they probs will give u a better direction into the specific stuff your looking for.

am i reading this right? has proggy gone officially insane? :P. Alright, as far as black metal with folk in it, Drudkh is an absolute must. Get mircocosmos and then after just get the rest. I wouldnt dig into their newest as one of the first albums to get tho as its a bit of a dip in quality. For accessible but quality black metal, Dissection are fantastic melodic black metal. Get both their albums. A similar band to that is Sacramentum who are almost as good as dissection. Get their album 'Far Away from the Sun.' I dont know if u want pure folk metal but if u do Ensiferum are a great place to start. Get their self-titled. Also being proggy, i think you would dig enslaved's newer stuff a lot. I dont really like them but u might, get vertabrae and their newest album. Ulver's 'Bergtatt' is the original black/folk classic, so defo get that. Their album after that is more of a folk metal album so get that as well if u enjoy Bergtatt.
