Not being able to see live shows has been rough. Last show was Feburary 2020. I'm good though. Robert Wyatt is someone I've heard a lot about. Still need to check him out though. Oh, I finally got more into Cardiacs. It took awhile, but I really love them now.

Yas. Sucks it took so long for me to get into her stuff. Started getting heavily into her in 2019.

heya. so i've just started my exploration of rio/avant-prog that isn't henry cow, and blimey, aren't samla mammas manna good? I'm getting great big smatterings of canterbury, zappa and magma (as in the little bit of magma I've heard sounds a little bit like the little bit of this lot i've heard). all wrapped up in a nice bit of demented falsetto warblings and tasty guitar work. brilliant.

yeah, haven't investigated much new stuff jazz-wise, mainly re-listening to familiar stuff. went to see kamasi at the albert hall a few weeks ago and to be honest, the album does sort of pale in comparison to that experience. it was fuckin ace. and yes, finally given magma a proper go after quite a bit. it'll probably need a fair few more listens until i get the most out of it, but it certainly sounded good. sort of henry cow-ish avant prog filtered through spiritual jazz sensibilities. I'd be open to some recommendations for good magma-related stuff to explore

see you've been listening to some deerhoof recently. have you given balter / saunier a spin yet? if you want to hear the band lending their hands to some avant-y modern classical type stuff, it's ace.

Yeah, got a bit of reich on cd. I went to go and see the Kronos quartet at my local town hall about a month ago, they were doing a handful of contemporary composer stuff (terry Riley, Laurie Anderson and some other names I can't remember right now) and the centrepiece of the concert was of reich's different trains. Loved it instantly, such a clever concept. you got any recommendations of other Reich stuff to check out?

hi, only just seen your comment cause last.fm is buggered to fuck yeah, it seems alright. definitely better than king of limbs which was a bit of a snoozefest. usually not that bothered with post-amnesiac radiohead, but this seemed more on the interesting side of things. burn the witch, identikit and desert island disk are my fave tracks right now, hoping the rest will grow on me more

vaguely, but tbh I'm not that familiar with RIO-avant rock type stuff beyond Henry Cow in general. they sound interesting though. got queues and cures up for listening to next, I think I heard Binoculars on Kavus and Steve's weird radio show a few weeks back

been listening to a bit of national health recently - noticed that this sounds a bit Pascoal-y towards the end (about 8:32): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mwu4hasG3po

Cool!!! Faust is good! I haven't been listening to much krautrock lately. I've been into mostly post-rock, shoegaze and hip-hop. What have you been into?

Hello! I love how unreservedly friendly the Cardiacs community is! Yes, SiB and NSRO are little whirlpools of beauty in their own right. Any other Cardiacs-related recommendations are welcome! I find it hard to remove myself from that velocity of songwriting at the moment!

Yeah, I'm planning on listening to all of their stuff. I'm listening to Born Into Trouble.. now and it's awesome. Oh, Could've Moved Mountains is so dreamy. I feel like I'll really like most of this band's output.

Alcest are good. Well I only heard one album. The vocals weren't may cup of tea but, they weren't bad. There's some cool shoegaze stuff and some Indian sounding percussion and drones. Oh and have you listened to Esmerine? Their album Dalmak is amazing.

Well, everything you named is new to me.. So, some new things to check out, Also, I've heard of Dälek, never listened though. Noise and hip-hop can work in a weird way. Have you heard of B L A C K I E and clipping.? Both are good. I like Blackie a lot more though.

Yes. I don't think I've heard any that I don't like. Amon Düül II, Faust, Cluster and Xhol Caravan are all bands I just recently checked out. and Of course Can and Nue! are both amazing. I've been listening to a lot more post rock lately. I looked back at your recs, I still need to check out more though.

I'm really digging it. I really like vocals. I really like prog bands with female vocalist. Do you like Thinking Plague? Some similar avant-prog with female vocals. But, no real pop influences. Also, I'll check out the other band next. I've been in a weird pop mood.

I'll check it out. I've heard it hard to finish. It's kind of like Space is the Place by Sun Ra. It isn't too appealing to me, but, I get it.. and yeah, I'll check out some Amon Duul II. I'm still in a kraut mood.

True! I really like Frith's improv, he adds more melody and ambiance to it. and yeah, Ornette Coleman is amazing, he's probably my favorite saxophonist. Albert is cool, just a little hectic. Anthony Braxton, I haven't listened to him much. The new Zu, is kind of more sludgie and dense. It's less dizzying, I guess. I think Carboniferous was the start of a more heavy and rock sound. But, I haven't really listened to them much either.

Yeeeah, Zorn and Boredoms can get too insane at times too. But, I usually still respect stuff that's filled with noodling, noise and other oddities. But, I at least I wasn't cringing at points like I have to some free improv stuff. But, like I said I still respect it. :) Also, Zs? You should them to me, and I'm glad you did, because their album Xe might just be my favorite 2015 album.. So far. Also, have you heard the new Zu album? It's solid.

Hella cool. I beat over hyped. But, I love Battles. Math rock can get a little too over barring at times. I like when it more jazzy or kind of herky jerky. Their's also a lot of post/math bands that are great. You may like Cheval de Frise. Their guitarist uses a hollow body guitar and they do some post rock stuff. nuito is another cool on that does some post and jazz rock mixed with choatic math rock. also, I'll have to listen to that other Set Fire album.

American Don is just stunning. The guitarist uses a loop pedal to create crazy layers of twinkly sounds. They started out more minimal and hardcore but then lost a guitarist. AD is more of a post -rock album though. But, I still like there album What Burns Never Returns more. It's really chaotic, but not too over the top, like some math rock. Also, I listened to the band Set Fire to Flames, a GSYB off shoot. It was a cool mix of dark ambient and post rock, I really like it. Have you listen to them?

Also, have you ever listen to Don Caballero's American Don? It's a great mix of Post and math -rock. I think you would enjoy it. It's very beautiful.

Yes, he's done it all. Avant-pop, avant-prog, jazzcore, classical, free imrov, noise and soo much more. He's solo album Cheap at Half the Price is my favorite avant-pop album ever. It's a great middle ground between the two, without leaning too much toward one genre. He even played guitar and bass with the Residents. I mean, who else can say they got to play with Zorn and the The Residents in their life?!

Yeah, I love both eras of the Boredoms but, that album is just amazing. I also like Super Ae a lot and I just listened to Seadrum/House of Sun for the first time yesterday. It was amazing. I've only heard a little from News From Babel. I need to hear a full album. Do you like Art Bears? They're a pretty difficult listen but, I dig them when I'm in the mood for it. I need to re-listen to a lot of Fred Frith's solo stuff. He's one of my favorite musicians ever.

Oh, yeah.. I forgot about that about Slapp Happy. They're my favorite Henry Cow side project. Can is good, and I need to listen to Amon Duul II. I think Neu! is my favorite of the classic kraut stuff. Also did you ever listen to the Boredoms' album Vision Creation Newsun? It's some amazing krautrock. And I've only heard parts of the Yellow Shark, Zappa's classical stuff never interested me as much as his avant and jazz stuff.
