Regarding your shout on the Modest Mouse page, start with the Moon and Antarctica. It's not their best but it's more accessible than their older stuff. Get Lonesome Crowded West after that.

You mean as far as the national are concerned? then I would highly recommend "Boxer". That was the album I heard first and it is a great one. In general I am currently listening to "The Suburbs" by Arcade Fire but I assume you know it alreday? Love it...
